Total Triage at our practice from 2nd February 2026

We will be introducing Total Triage at our practice from 2nd February 2026.

  • Total Triage will be open daily from 8:00am to 6:30pm for a variety of request types.
  • Save time by submitting your request online. This will help reduce long wait times on the phones and the “8am rush” for an appointment.

Introducing Our New Triage and Appointment System

The best way to request an appointment will be online via our website or by using the NHS app, as it will give you more information and help keep the phone lines open for patients who need to talk to a receptionist. If you can't use the internet or aren't comfortable with it, you can still call the practice to make a request, and a member of our reception team will complete a form for you. All requests will then be reviewed and triaged by a member of the clinical team.

Why are we changing to a Total Triage Model?

GP practices are facing significant pressure due to declining GP numbers and rising demand. Ensuring that patients are seen by the appropriate person at the right place and time, improves patient care and experience. The concept behind total digital triage is also to prevent the “8am rush” that has become an issue for many.

  • Our appointments will continue to be offered according to clinical need while making sure our limited resources are put to best use.
  • Feedback from other practices that have already been using the Total Triage is very positive. We are excited about this change and the benefits it will bring to our practice and patient journey.

How it works

  1. Patient submission: Patients use the online triage platform Accurx to submit their health requests online or a staff member can do this for those who require support completing the online form.
  2. Triage assessment: A clinician reviews the patient's information and assesses the urgency and nature of their need.
  3. Prioritisation and direction: The clinician determines the best course of action, which may include a same-day, 24-hour, routine appointment, or referral to another service for example Pharmacy First.

FAQs

What are the opening times for submitting an online request?

We aim to have the online triage platform open from 08:00am to 6:30pm every weekday, excluding bank holidays.

All requests will be triaged by our clinical team. The team will determine the best next steps for your medical concern, and we will be in contact to arrange an appointment with the most appropriate clinician where needed.

Remember, there are also out-of-hours services when we are closed, including urgent treatment centres, 111, and 999.

How soon will I hear back?

We aim to respond to all queries as soon as possible.

What happens if I can’t access the internet or don’t feel confident using it?

Our reception team are always happy to help, they can submit requests for you and will contact you to inform you of the outcome of your request and book you in for an appointment if necessary.

Your request will be handled in the same manner whether you complete the request online yourself, or contact us via telephone, where our receptionists will ask the same questions and complete the request on your behalf to ensure equity of access for all patients. We would encourage all patients who can do so to use our online form, as this will prevent you from needing to queue on the telephone and keep lines free for those who may need assistance.

Can I use the online request form to request a repeat prescription?

We would recommend you use the NHS app to request your repeat prescriptions or via your nominated Pharmacy, but you can also use the online form if this is easier for you.

Can I book a practice nurse appointment through total triage?

No, but you can book them via your NHSAPP if they have been made available for online booking.

Will the total triage platform be on an App?

No, it can only be accessed through our website.
